pregnant!

i know no one really reads this blog anymore anyway. but on the off chance that there is someone out there reading who doesn't actually know me in real life, here's the news:

i'm knocked up.

i'll let you get over your shock.

privets

E was in his top bunk for quiet time this afternoon. he doesn't nap anymore so i had said it would be fine if he did some drawing instead. (i don't really care as long as i get some peace and quiet for a half an hour, obviously.)

i stopped by the door of his room to check on how he was doing at the same time that he launched a crumpled up piece of paper at the garbage can next to me.

he missed and i bent to pick up the paper.

E: "no, mommy! don't look at that!"

me: "E, i was just going to throw it away."

E: (looking relieved) "oh, okay.. just don't look at it."

me: "what is it, honey? is it your poem from earlier today?*"

E: "um, nooo... it's WAY naughtier."

i was intrigued, of course. being the wonderful mommy that i am, and since i value my children's right to privacy i tossed that crumpled ball right into the garbage and left it there.

until tonight, when i had to take a little peek.

*while on a playdate in the morning, E, trying to be the very naughtiest he could be, had written a poem with the words "tenders" (latest first grade word for "testicles") and "privits".

aspirations

K: "when i grow up, i want to be.... a grown up."

E: "when i grow up i want to be just like mommy... and do nothing."

fyi

K would like you to know that the game, "hide and seek"

was not called as such in its original context.

"when the game was first, like when it was the start,

they didn't call it 'hide and seek', but they called it 'hide and DEEK'.

they did! really! it's true!

and then, one day they changed it just a little bit and they started just to call it hide and SEEK."

and who is "they?"

"the guys. the ones who were playing it first."

i just thought you might find that information helpful.

you know, for the next time you're at a cocktail party
or playing trivial pursuit or something.

when i'm big

K and i were driving in the car, enjoying a gorgeous, sunny day.

me: "K, this day is so pretty, i think we need to have our windows rolled down!"

K: "can i have mine down, too?"

me: "well, just a bit. but not too far because kids can't really have their windows all the way down."

K:"why not?"

me: "because sometimes it makes kids want to stick their hands out of the window and that is just dangerous."

pause.

K: "mommy, when will i be big enough to drive?"

me: " when you are sixteen years old. like kayla (the babysitter)."

K: "when i am sixteen i will drive all by myself!"

me: "yep!"

K: " and put my arm out the window..."

me: "sure!"

K: "and listen to NPR... and watch the inauguration..."

i think i'm going to like that kid when he gets older. :)
